Record Rarities from Bruce's Record Collection

Off The Record

Posted by Bruce on August 28, 2010 in Announcements with No Comments

Just a quick reminder for everyone, that the Vinyl Vault will be (officially) launched on Wednesday afternoon, although it could be uploaded as early as sometime this weekend (due to unforseen circumstances on Wednesday)

My intention for this website to be an online disography of records manufactured and distributed in Australia (with a few New Zealand titles thrown in (Music World, anyone?)  ;)

The listing is in a very embryonic stage, but will be expanded from time to time.  for further details visit the Vinyl Vault here.

Also due to other commitments, I haven’t posted much here this month, but I intend to get back to speed in September, so stay tuned.

Now, here’s part two of my 12 Discs Christmas record posts, this time, an Image Records (Australia) release (Distributed by Music World)

LP Title: We Wish You A Merry Christmas

Performed by The Holly Singers

Label: Music World (New Zealand), under license from the Image Record group, catalogue not known

Music World Catalogue Number: TV 108

Category: Christmas

No production info available.  If you have the original Australian release, could you please e-mail me the info.  Thanks.

Side 1

  1. We Wish You A Merry Christmas
  2. Medley: O Come All Ye Faithful, Good King Wenceslas, Joy To The World, Hark The Herald Angels Sing
  3. White Christmas
  4. Santa Claus is Coming To Town
  5. Christmas Year
  6. The Little Drummer Boy
  7. I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus

Side 2

  1. Silent Night
  2. Medley: Frosty The Snowman, Jingle Bells, Here Comes Santa Claus
  3. Silver Bells
  4. Have A Merry Christmas
  5. Medley: Away In A Manger, The First Noel
  6. Medley: Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer, Winter Wonderland
  7. The Twelve Days of Christmas

Another collection of Christmas favourites performed by the Holly Singers.  This LP was unusual, as Music World did not plaster their logo on the LP cover (and I do not know whether Image Records ever released this title in Australia (which is why I’m asking for any info of the Australian release above))

Tomorrow on the blog I have one (of two) LPs in my collection which was only available as a premium when you purchased some tires for your car

The two of them were premiums, one for Firestone tires (which I will show closer to December) and tomorrow is one produced for Goodyear.

The LP will appear here tomorrow.

Just a reminder that my dozen LPs in the 12 discs of Christmas will start appearing on Sunday morning, every day at the same time (approximately 7:00 am) until the 24th of June.

I originally was going to do this in time for Christmas, and later on for the Christmas in July celebrations, but I decided to post these a bit earlier than I anticipated, so that I won’t have a huge backlog of posts when it came closer to Christmas.

I will be posting a couple more LP’s later this year closer to Christmas (as I found a lot more that my original 12), so you’ll see them in December.

here’s a preview of what’s to come.

the New Zealand budget label headed by Houghton Hughes.  It was in operation in Australia from around 1980 until 1996 (in New Zealand, it had been around since the mid 1970′s)

In Australia the label was distributed by a company named Trans Tasman Productions (by the late 1980′s it became Music World Australia)

their specialty was in compilations and original recordings featuring recording artists as Tom Sharplin and Rhonda

the first logo above appeared on LP releases from the 1970′s.  Below is the label from this era:

and here is the label as it appeared in the 1980′s

by the late 1980s, the comany branched into CDs and Videocassette releases.

The last known releases by this company were released around 1996.

During it’s heyday, the record company was available everywhere in Australia, but by the mid 1990′s it was only available at dollar shops such as The Reject Shop.
